Art@CMS at the Capitol in Washingon DC, USA

Art@CMS artworks presented to the US House of Representatives - Capitol Washington DC in the Rayburn building during the Higgs.

The US particle physics community organized a daylong ‘Higgs Event 2013’ for the US House of Representatives. Framing diccussions about physics goals Art@CMS artists Xavier Cortada and Michael Hoch were invited to present their artworks during the event. All members of US congress received replicas of FIU resident artist Xavier Cortada.

Science and Art initiatives like Art@CMS gain on visibility and importance.
FIU artist Xavier Cortada and Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, chair of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Caucus, discussed the important link between the arts and sciences. “The collaboration between physicist Dr. Pete Markowitz and Artist-in-Residence Xavier Cortada is an example of the kind of interdisciplinary work fostered at FIU — crossing traditional disciplines, colleges and perceived boundaries,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Douglas Wartzok. “By combining STEM disciplines with the arts to generate STEAM — a solution-oriented approach focused on student learning, innovation and collaboration — FIU demonstrates its commitment to being one of the nation’s leading urban public research universities.”
